What You Should Know About Endosteal Implants

Posted on 10/10/2022 by Pine Belt Periodontics
What You Should Know About Endosteal ImplantsEndosteal-type implants can be installed in your jawbone. They are made of titanium and may replace a single tooth or even multiple teeth. Endosteal types of implants are the commonest implant type, and they are usually recommended for people who have lost teeth due to gum disease or an injury. Read on to know more.

What Are Endosteal Implants?

The jawbone is immediately implanted with an endosteal implant. This implant is typically used for patients with enough healthy jawbone to support the implant. The implant is titanium, a biocompatible metal that fuses with the bone over time. Once the implant fuses the bone, it acts as a new root for the tooth. A dental prosthetic, such as a crown, is placed on the implant to restore the tooth. Endosteal implants are considered a safe and effective way to replace missing teeth. However, they require a surgical procedure and can take several months to heal. In addition, endosteal implants are not suitable for everyone. Patients with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes or bone diseases, may not be able to get this type of implant. Endosteal implants are just one type of dental implant available.

Things to Consider Before Getting Endosteal Implants

Before getting endosteal implants, there are a few things you should consider. First, endosteal implants require surgery, so you must be prepared for the recovery process. The surgery itself is usually relatively simple and only takes a few hours. However, a few months are taken for the implant to fuse with the bone. During this time, you need to be careful of the implant site and take care of it as directed by your dentist or surgeon. Additionally, endosteal implants can be expensive. The cost of the surgery itself varies depending on the number of implants being placed and the dental prosthetic being used.
