Do You have bad taste in Your Mouth Constantly? Most of us experience a bad taste in our mouths on a regular basis. The taste disappears after rinsing your mouth or brushing. However, if you have an underlying oral condition, the bad taste may stick around. No matter the cause, having a bad taste can be very uncomfortable. It ruins your appetite and makes it difficult to enjoy meals. Dry mouth, poor oral hygiene, and oral thrush are some of the causes of bad taste in your mouth.

Dry Mouth

Also referred to as xerostomia, a dry mouth happens when the salivary glands can't produce sufficient saliva. Saliva is very important in your mouth. This is because it limits the growth of bacteria by washing away stuck food particles. Without enough saliva, you will have bad taste in your mouth due to leftover food particles and excessive bacteria.

Poor Oral Hygiene

One of the most common causes of bad taste is poor oral hygiene. Failing to brush at least twice a day and floss on a regular basis could lead to conditions like gum disease, which results in bad breath. Furthermore, dental problems like abscesses and tooth decay could produce a bad taste in your mouth. Luckily, you can avoid all of these conditions by maintaining good dental hygiene. You should brush thoroughly, floss on a regular basis, and use a mouthwash after eating. It is also important to come in for regular dental exams and cleanings. Furthermore, experts recommend that you include an antibacterial mouth rinse in your oral routine for extra protection.

Oral Thrush

Another common cause of bad taste is oral thrush. This is a type of yeast infection that grows in moist and warm areas, including the mouth. Oral thrush is more likely to develop in older adults with weakened immune systems. Contact our offices for more information on the causes of bad taste in your mouth.
